#Skittles is one of our favorite #halloween candies (it might be a 1974 thing). This guy, sure he was paid, but still got mostly undressed and into a #witches caldron. There are a couple of things that we saw in this ad that make it work for us. We thought it being halloween and all we would share. Enjoy!
It's About Skittles
Well duh...you might be thinking. But the brand mentions the word "Skittles" 5 times and shows the skittles logo all but 10 seconds of the 50 second commercial. When it comes to video or any other kind of digital media, clearly presenting the product is important. However, we do question if Skittles go with the milk in the Witch's glass.
All #halloween. The witch, the caldron, 3 cats (even the one in the calendar), the broom, and the crow in a setting depicting the past.
Halloween is a holiday celebrated each year on October 31, and Halloween 2019 occurs today, Thursday, October 31. The tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints. Soon, All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, donning costumes, eating treats [and watching weird commercials like this one] (History.com, 2019).
While Skittles might be enticing, we think that there could be a metaphor coming from the commercial. The witch looks to be aged, full of meds on table. The boy is young and we could make the connection that skittles kept him that way. We all know that isn't the case. However, Skittles can make you feel better (that is if you like them).
